“Anthony Gordon could move this January” – Insists ex-Red

Former Aston Villa and Liverpool attacker Stan Collymore believes that Everton could be tempted to listen to offers for Anthony Gordon this month, insisting that Newcastle United, Manchester United and Arsenal should be looking at the 21-year-old.

The Everton academy graduate was persistently linked with a move to either Chelsea or their London rivals Spurs throughout the summer transfer window last year, though a move failed to materialise.

However, the Blues winger has seen himself rumoured with a departure from Goodison Park once again this month, and Collymore believes a move away from his boyhood club could be on the cards before the window closes.

“Anthony Gordon could move this January,” Collymore said.

“He’s young, and he’s promising, but it’s very difficult for him to progress at Goodison Park given the club’s problems at the moment.

“I think they probably will be willing to listen to offers to help bring in some funds. Surely £30-40m, plus some add-ons would be enough to get him out of there now?”

Indeed, Gordon is a promising young talent, and the Toffees could see newly cash-rich Newcastle United reignite their interest, with the Magpies previously linked with a move for the Everton attacker.

Collymore continued, “I think Eddie Howe should certainly be testing Everton’s resolve, but if they do, I don’t think they’ll be the only ones.”

The England U21 international signed a 5-year contract at Goodison Park back in September 2020, and there have been suggestions that improved terms could be agreed between Gordon and Frank Lampard’s side, though that could well be contingent on what offers are made for the youngster this month.

Everton desperately need to strengthen in attack, and almost 3 weeks into the January transfer window, there has been little movement regarding in-comings.

The loan market is likely to be exploited, but should the club need to sell to buy, I think Gordon will go if an offer comes in.
