Loads of Everton fans have been reacting on social media after La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Daily Mail, claimed SSC Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis wants Carlo Ancelotti to make an incredible return to the San Paolo Stadium.
De Laurentiis fired Ancelotti in December on the back of the Italian ending a nine-game winless run by qualifying for the Champions League Last 16, and replaced the 60-year-old with AC Milan icon Gennaro Gattuso.
Results have not improved in Naples since the change at the helm, though, as Gli Azzurri have been beaten in four of their last five Serie A games after losing 2-0 at home to Fiorentina on Saturday.
Gattuso is now set to take the Napoli first-team on a retreat as he looks for answers that will inspire his second league win in charge, but De Laurentiis is already willing to accept he was wrong and wants Ancelotti back in Naples having become furious with the Partenopei’s form.
Ancelotti wouldn't go back, would he?
Yes, he would
No, he's ours
It is not suggested that De Laurentiis will fire Gattuso after little more than a month in charge, while it would likely be extremely difficult to poach Ancelotti from the Toffees given he signed a four-and-a-half-year deal worth a whopping £11.5million-per-year.
Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to reports of De Laurentiis already regretting sacking Ancelotti, and wanting the three-time Champions League winner back at the San Paolo Stadium…
Would be the most Everton thing to happen at Everton https://t.co/cgy3jxoZsk

Yeah good luck with that. Far too many legalities for that to even be possible.

It would bankrupt Napoli

Surely to god he wouldn’t entertain the idea

To pay gattuso off and pay the huge contract off on Ancelotti… Yeah good luck with that 😂

In other Everton news, Ancelotti is reportedly keen to land a €20million defender, but the club lag behind a European giant in the race for his signature.
