With recent speculation linking Everton with a possible interest in Barcelona centre-half Yerry Mina, his agent and uncle Jair Mina has rubbished talk of a move away from the Spanish giants – and that applies to all potential suitors in Europe, not just us.

The Colombian international who has certainly caught the eye at this summer’s Russian World Cup had previously said himself that he was ‘thinking’ of a return to Barcelona and he didn’t believe the time was right to discuss his future after England took a penalty victory over them in our last game.

Now Is Not The Time To Discuss My Future As Everton Reportedly Make Contact With Barcelona

The Liverpool Echo have his uncle saying broadly similar, but in far stronger terms when it came to a departure from Barca.

“I’m not aware of any bids. The player has a contract with Barcelona and wants to stay at Barcelona.”

Jair went on to say that of course, they had to see what the ‘situation’ was with his parent club given their own transfer speculation at this time of year, and he conceded he didn’t have ‘any information’ on that front but he restated that Mina made the move to succeed at the Nou Camp and that remains his solitary aim as he’s convinced he can make the position his own.

It’s a strong statement and it says all the right things about his self-belief and ambition but ultimately at his age, given how we’ve seen him perform in Russia, he’ll be wanting game time and he hasn’t got an awful lot of that at Barca.

Whether that changes or not remains to be seen.
