A few Everton fans were left irate at Yerry Mina for his role in the club’s Merseyside Derby defeat at Liverpool in the FA Cup Third Round on Sunday.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti has trusted Mina to open three of his four games in charge of the Toffees in all competitions since replacing Marco Silva, with the Colombian only out of favour for our 2-1 win at Newcastle United.
Silva likewise often favoured the former FC Barcelona man, signed for £27.19million in 2018, with the Portuguese listing the 6 ft 4 centre-half in the starting XI for all bar two of his 15 Premier League games at the helm this term.
Ancelotti may have been left questioning his defensive options at full-time this weekend, though, as Mina lost his influence on proceedings after the break and did not close Curtis Jones down quick enough to stop the Reds youngster from scoring the winner.
Mina also did not record his first successful – or attempted – tackle until the 75th-minute at Anfield, before going on to notch his second – and last – of the day in the 83rd.
Only teammate Mason Holgate (8) recorded more clearances than Mina (6) for either side, though, while also only trailing Dominic Calvert-Lewin (9) for number of aerial duels won (4), per WhoScored data.
That said, four of Mina’s six clearances came before the 45-minute mark, while also recording his sole interception of the match in the 33rd-minute.
The 25-year-old’s passing accuracy also declined after the interval, with Mina boasting a 96% completion rate in the first half with 24 of his 25 balls finding a teammate, before only 23 of his 31 (74%) found their intended target in the second period.
Here are some of the messages shared from fans left disgruntled by Mina’s performance at Anfield on Sunday…
Unpopular opinion but Yerry Mina is an absolute fraud. He is living off a header he scored in the world cup and wagging a finger at diving players. #EFC
