“A Premier League Club Run like Bingo Night” – Former Everton Player Laments

|

Former Everton player Kevin Kilbane has slammed how the club has been ran in recent seasons, stating that the Blues are “a selling club that lacks cogent strategic vision”.

The former Republic of Ireland international spent 3 years at Goodison Park between 2003 and 2006 and was part of David Moyes’ squad when the Toffees qualified for the Champions League in 2005, scoring 4 goals in 104 league appearances overall.

His commitment and versatility made him a firm favourite on the blue half of Merseyside, and the ex-utility player reflects on the changes at the club since his time at Goodison.

Kilbane states, “Moshiri has tried everything and nothing, all at once. Unlike Brighton, Everton are a selling club that lacks a cogent strategic vision.

“Everton under Moshiri feels like a Premier League club run like bingo night. By the time you read this Lampard could conceivably be sacked.

Or Moyes might be gone from West Ham. Saturday afternoon’s gathering at the London stadium has both clubs level on 15 points with bottom of the table Southampton.”

Indeed, Everton are seemingly without a vision or direction, and the passionate fanbase can look to the likes of Brighton and Brentford with envious eyes as they epitomise well-run and well-managed football clubs.

7 permanent managers in the 10 years since David Moyes’ departure exemplifies the instability at the club, with 3 directors of football since 2016.

However, Kilbane states that the current West Ham boss had laid solid foundations on which to build at Goodison.

The ex-Everton man continued, “Everton FC has never needed a miracle worker or a faith healer. Moyes offered the base standard; someone capable of driving the club towards Champions League contention without the threat of financial ruin.”

Indeed, all of that work has now been undone, as Everton face a second successive relegation scrap, and face a tightrope walk for the foreseeable future.
