According to Corriere dello Sport – via Sport Witness – the Blues are looking at centre-half Ilya Kutepov of Spartak Moscow.
The 24-year-old featured in the Champions League last season and is apparently courting interest of our club as we look for a new centre-half.
The likes of Fiorentina and Lyon are also apparently keen and so that suggests that this is a player of decent quality for sure.
Certainly, the club is on the hunt for a new central defender. Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka are both getting on and a new partner for Michael Keane needs to be looked at.
The Verdict
I agree we need a new centre-half but this is not what we need.
The player obviously has some talent but I’d rather we signed a proven Premier League player or at least one that has played in the big leagues in Europe.
Perhaps I’m being a bit ignorant but I just think it’s a needless risk.
Thoughts, Blues? Let me know!
