Jean-Philippe Gbamin couldn’t have had a worse debut season at Everton. The 24-year-old made just two appearances before spending the entire campaign out with a quadriceps injury.

He’s on the recovery trail and should be ready to feature at the start of next season, but what has Gbamin gone through in the last eight months?

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

The Ivorian international played 45 minutes in Everton 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on August 10, 2019 and had a full 90 minutes in the Blues’ 1-0 win over Watford seven days later. Gbamin injured his thigh in training on August 27 and was ruled out for up to three months.

Everton confirmed on October 16 that the midfielder underwent surgery on a tendon injury in his right quadriceps muscle and would be out of action for another three months. In February, Gbamin suffered a setback in his recovery and was due to go under the knife again.

Carlo Ancelotti confirmed on February 7 that the surgery was successful, but it set Gbamin’s return date back another eight weeks. As per The Athletic, Gbami has had two relapses, two bouts of surgery and has spent eight months on the sidelines.

It’s been a nightmare stint at Everton for the Ivorian, but his second season is sure to go better than his first.
