On Wednesday evening, Paris Saint-Germain took a rather emphatic 3-0 victory over Real Madrid in their opening Champions League Group stage game of the 2019/20 campaign, and former Manchester United and England centre-half Rio Ferdinand had significant praise for former Everton player Idrissa Gueye.
With the long drawn out Gueye transfer saga going back to last January, the 29-year-old won himself a fair bit of respect from the Goodison Park faithful as although he made it clear to the club he wanted his ‘dream’ move to the French giants at the turn of the year, he continued to give his all in our shirt when the move was denied.
For many fans though, Ferdinand’s words simply showed a lack of knowledge on his part, given how Gueye had been performing for us – but simply not getting the credit he deserved at that time.

“I’d seen him at Everton and thought he was a really good player. But he showed more tonight. He was comfortable, brought people into the game, it looked like he had been playing at this level for years.”
Whilst Ferdinand was right to praise his qualities on the pitch, saying he’d improved over the space of four games and become a better player, was a stretch for plenty in social media.
that's because he has been playing that good for years smh

So basically Ferdinand is a tool

Classic case of Everton players being ignored. He was best dm in Europe at Everton, he is still the best dm but now he is at PSG so poor pundits speak only now.

???????????? He’s always been that player though to be fair. Just never got to show it on a Tuesday or Wednesday on BT. Let’s be honest can’t see Rio taking loads of Everton games in he isn’t covering ????

What nonsense. He's been playing like that for at least 2 years now, only difference being he can now attack a bit more with a higher quality of player around him. You pundits just haven't watched him enough with him not being in the Champions League. #BandwagonWatchers

Which is exactly what he did for Everton week in week out. We aren't a top 6 side though so it went unnoticed
