The Nigerian born striker was set to join up with Berti Vogts’ side in order to be given his debut with the Super Eagles against Kenya.

After not turning up, Vogts’ number two Emeka Ezeala informed the Everton man not to bother as that sort of attitude would not be tolerated.

Anichebe has attempted to set the record straight after Ezeala’s outburst.

He told the official site; ‘There was a complete mix-up with the travel arrangements. I was originally told that my arrival time would be Sunday and that surprised me because of the timings of the first game.’

‘I was then told that I had to fly via Germany to arrive in Nigeria on the Friday but that call came far too late for me to do anything about it. At no point have I indicated that I would not be willing to play in any friendly matches.’

Whether Anichebe will make his international debut under current manager Berti Vogts remains to be seen.
