Two young Everton starlets have received praise from a perhaps surprising source of late – Jamie Carragher.
Both Jonjoe Kenny and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have had the chance to play this season with the full-back showing some good bite and DCL profiting from attacking injuries.
And, speaking to the club’s official site, the former boyhood Blue turned Red has revealed how impressed he has been with the young pair.
He said of Kenny:
“He is your typical Scouse full-back, very aggressive, takes no prisoners but he also has quality going forward.
“You can see what it means to him playing for Everton. The traditions of Everton are that they always have those types of players.”
And of DCL:
“I like Calvert-Lewin a lot, too. He has a great presence. I saw him in town and had a picture with him, I was looking up to him, the size of him!”
Both have been decent enough at times this season when asked to come in but they’ll need to do more to nail down a spot.
I’m never sure whether DCL is going to make it for us as he can blow hot and cold whilst it is early in Kenny’s career.
He looks a battler, though, so that will serve him well, though he is not close to challenging Seamus Coleman when the Irishman is fully fit.
