A few Everton fans have been reacting on social media, after the club shared that David Unsworth’s Under 23s had beaten Plymouth Argyle 4-0 in the Premier League Cup.

Unsworth’s young Toffees side travelled to Home Park on Monday to face the League Two outfit’s academy, as they continued their defence of the title after clinching a youth domestic double last season.

Victory over Plymouth has ensured that the Blues will progress into the knockout stages, as beating Argyle at Home Park moved the Blues onto ten points in Group B following previous wins over Watford and Fulham.

The Cottagers losing at the Hornets on February 7 means they can no longer mathematically catch Everton, with the South West London side trailing us by four points with only one game still to play.

Plymouth had held us to a draw earlier in the Group Stage as Unsworth’s side struggled to get into gear following defeat at Fulham in the opening game, but will enter the Last 16 with a chance of becoming the first side to defend the PL Cup.

Will Everton defend the PL Cup trophy?

Yes

No

Ellis Simms struck a brace at Home Park on Monday while Dennis Adeniran and Ryan Astley also found the net, as the Blues overcame horrendous conditions to seal a 4-0 win.

Simms could even have had a hat-trick had he not been tripped in the 20th-minute after Adeniran pulled the ball back to the striker following a glorious pass by Beni Baningime.

Adeniran would see the resulting spot-kick saved before drilling a fine finish home to atone for his missed penalty minutes later.

Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to Everton beating Plymouth 4-0 and securing a place in the Last 16 of the PL Cup…

In other Everton news, loads of fans have been reacting to a “dangerously arrogant” man’s claim.
