Cenk Tosun has said that it’s a ‘great honour’ to be an Everton player as we give him a shot at the Premier League.

Having come in earlier in January from Besiktas, he admitted it was difficult to make the switch and move to a new country but it was an opportunity e couldn’t let pass him by.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media yesterday, the 26 year old explained.

‘It is a great honour to be at the Club. Everton were one of the teams that I always watched and I am grateful to be here. They were the first team that seriously wanted me and I was serious about wanting to come here. I always say that it was my biggest dream to play in the Premier League and after my transfer from Gaziantepspor to Besiktas, I worked so hard to get here. The move doesn`t put a lot of pressure on me – it is actually a great honour. I would like to become a role model for players in Turkey. There are some great players there and I want to open the door for them. It is also an honour to be the only Turkey international in the league. I regard this competition as the best in the world so it is a privilege to be able to play here.’

Having made his debut against Tottenham Hotspur and got his first taste of our top flight, he went on to talk about his hopes for success when he properly finds his feet at the club.

‘Everybody needs new targets and new missions in life, and it was my objective to play in the Premier League. Now that I am here, the main aim is take the team to a better place and score as many goals as I can. I have got great examples to follow, like Emre Belozoglu and Tugay Kerimoglu. I would like to do well like them, and I think my character as a player is very suitable to this kind of football. This season it will be difficult but in future we want to win cups and I want to be a part of that. For the rest of this season, we are aiming to finish in the top half of the table, ideally seventh or eighth. That would be a good place for us.’

He also had a warm welcome for Theo Walcott who was at the training ground putting the final stamp on his transfer from Arsenal.

‘Theo is a great player. He’s a proven player and has done well for Arsenal for many years. I would say it’d be a massive signing for us. I think I would link up well with him. We already have very talented players in our team and I’m sure if we sign him he would have a great input.’
