The HORRIFIC stat that could see Everton relegated for the first time in 72 years

Since their last relegation to the 2nd division in the 1950/51 season, Everton have spent 72 straight years in the top flight of English football. However, this one stat could have brought that run to an end.

Everton have an illustrious history in the top flight of English football, last being relegated at the end of the 1950/51 season, meaning the toffees have had nearly 70 uninterrupted years in the top flight, a stat only eclipsed by Arsenal.

However, this unbelievable run in under serious threat of coming to an end and this stat could be the main culprit:

Despite sitting in joint bottom of the Premier League with less than half of the season to play, Everton are the only team in the Premier League to not make a signing during the January transfer window.

List of Premier League incomings from teams around Everton:

16) West Ham United

17) Wolverhampton Wanderers

18) AFC Bournemouth

19) Everton

20) Southampton

If you look at the two teams next to Everton in the Premier League table, Southampton (20) and Bournemouth (18), they have both spent over £50 million during this transfer window alone.

Going into the January transfer window, it was widely believed that Everton would need at least 2 attacking signings to aid their fight for Premier League survival. So for the club to leave the window without a single arrival was seen as inconceivable.

But that outcome is now a reality and Everton must be hoping for some sort of miracle to escape this season.
