Gary Neville has sent a blunt message to Everton fans and the Everton board after their club’s 2-1 loss to relegation rivals Southampton on the weekend, stating that “the fans need more” when talking to Sky Sports

Many Everton fans, rightfully, expected change after the club narrowly escaped relegation from the Premier League last season.

However, after 19 games of the new Premier League season, Everton sit on fewer points and are in a worse position than they were at this stage in the previous campaign.

This severe lack of improvement over the last season or so despite investment into the squad in the summer has sparked protests amongst fans about how the club has been run in recent years.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Gary Neville sent a message to Everton fans and the Everton board after their loss to Southampton:

“You think back to last season with the spirit building and fans with the coach on the way to the ground, you thought that would be a catalyst.”

“But, you can’t get to a point where people feel threatened”

“We know how passionate Everton fans are. We know that they are despirate. They have been dealt with poorly by successive owners and they have not had the right investment”

“The fans need more”

“They are behind (the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City) , they are so far behind. They are all over the place in the boardroom”

However, 16 days into the January transfer window, Everton are still in desperate need of attacking reinforcements but there has been no clear evidence that they are close to signing anyone as of today.
