Moyes has said Everton have to fight ‘We don’t want to be bottom, and I’m confident that we won’t be there come the end of the season. But the players have to show the kind of display they had against Bucharest.’ Adding ‘We need to show that level every week now. That’s the way things will have to be at Everton to get us up the table.’

Moyes has said he will not risk recent signing Andy van der Meyde until he is fit to play. ‘He has got a long way to go before he will be ready to play but he has trained and we will increase his training in the coming weeks, giving him quite a few double sessions,’

Moyes has been linked to a move to bolster Evertons attack by bidding for Halmstad striker Thorvaldsson who said: ‘I think there is something going on but I don’t want to know about such things, I just want to concentrate on my job…Then those things will just come slowly. I will look at it if something is offered. We will look at what will be offered but I won’t jump on the first thing that pops up.’

Danish international Per Kroldrup was absent due to flu as Everton Reserves were beaten 2-0 by Birmingham City. Moyes had hoped he would be available to gain some match fitness following his hernia operation.

The first FA Cup final between Everton and Liverpool is set to be replayed for Charity on May Bank Holiday 2006. Kenny Daglish is the man behind the idea to replay the 1986 game with proceeds going to the Marina Dalglish Charity.

Former manager Joe Royle has published ‘Joe Royle The Autobiography’ and admits moving to Everton was his dream job, adding he never considered quitting. ‘I made an appointment to see the chairman at his Park Food HQ. In spite of all my concerns at the recent setbacks, the injuries, the poor results and my problems with the Press, I swear that I only felt a sense of disappointment, not despair, as I drove through the Birkenhead tunnel, unaware that I was making my last official visit to the chairman of Everton Football Club. We were in a slump, there were issues to be discussed and I honestly thought this was to be a clear-the-air meeting. I admit I was confused and I just wanted the chairman to level with me about what was on his mind. I was hoping we would agree that we were going through a bad time, but that together we could see it through and come out the other side in good shape.’
