Everton confirmed yesterday evening that England No 1 goalkeeper Jordan Pickford had now signed a new six-year contract at Goodison Park keeping him with us until the summer of 2024.

The 24-year-old former Sunderland stopper joined the club in a big money £25million deal back in the summer of 2017 and that fee is expected to rise and probably already has done given how he worked his way into Gareth Southgate’s England set up and took a regular position between the sticks at last summer’s World Cup out in Russia.

Since arriving at the club he’s now notched up 52 appearances and despite a few hiccups, the lad has an incredibly bright future ahead of him – and the vast majority of fans continue to hope it’ll be with us until he decides to hang up his gloves.

With disappointment from the weekend’s result against Arsenal, this news was a ‘pick me up’ for fans this week and everyone hopes he’ll now kick on further and improve even more in the years to come.

In my humble, if he becomes half the keeper Neville Southall was, ‘legend’ status is assured but he doesn’t need to sit in goal as a protest during halftime unless he really wants to.
