Everton Under 23s striker Bassala Sambou has confirmed his exit from Goodison Park, marking the end to a three-year career in the Toffees’ academy.

Sambou moved to Merseyside in 2016 following his release by Coventry City, and featured in 60 junior fixtures for the Blues, in which he scored 19 goals.

The 2018/19 campaign proved to be the Hannover, Germany-born forward’s most prolific campaign in Royal Blue, as he found the net eleven times and assisted a further two for a goal involvement of 13 – with nine of his personal strikes helping toward a second Premier League 2 title under David Unsworth.

Everton had attempted to tie Sambou’s immediate future to the club, but the striker rejected the terms proposed, and has instead left Merseyside following the end of his previous deal.

Several potential suitors from across the Championship, League One and Europe were credited with an interest in the 21-year-old following his decision to reject a new contract at Goodison Park, with Blackburn Rovers muted as a potential destination.

The Netherlands appears to be where Sambou is heading, however, as Limburger understands Eredivisie outfit Fortuna Sittard are preparing for his arrival, and many of their fans have been replying to his post declaring his Merseyside exit welcoming the now-former Toffees star to their club.

Loads of Everton supporters have also been replying to Sambou wishing him well in the future.
