Team news: Everton man could return from injury to face Bournemouth

|

Jonas Lossl has been out of action with a calf injury but could return in time to face Bournemouth on September 15. The 30-year-old had been in Everton’s matchday squad against Crystal Palace (August 10) and Watford (August 17) but missed their meetings with Aston Villa (August 23), Lincoln City (August 28) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (September 1).

According to Premier Injuries, the Mirror and Tipsbladet, Lossl is expected to be back for Sunday. He’s Everton’s second-choice goalkeeper when fit, but Maarten Stekelenburg is waiting on the wings to warm the bench. The Danish international has yet to make an appearance since his move from Huddersfield Town as Jordan Pickford is No.1 between the sticks.

He brings a wealth of experience to the Everton ranks, having made 44 clean sheets in 137 appearances for FC Midtjylland (2004 – 2014), 29 clean sheets in 82 appearances for Guingamp (2014 – 2016), six clean sheets in 34 appearances for FSV Mainz 05 (2016 – 2018) and 15 clean sheets in 72 appearances for Huddersfield (2017 – 2019), but his role is subsidiary on Merseyside.

As for Everton, the Toffees are currently sixth in the Premier League with seven points from four games and already have two clean sheets to their name. They’re favourites to beat Bournemouth and could move into the top-four if results go their way.
