Everton women have beaten Aston Villa 4-2 on penalties, after the game came to an end with the score tied at 1-1, with toffees goalkeeper, Emily Ramsey the star in the shootout.

Going into the game, Brian Sorensen’s side must have been full of confidence, having beaten Aston Villa last week in the west midlands, thanks to a single Lucy Graham strike, handing them all three points. However, the Villa side would certainly be lacking a bit of confidence having lost 2 and drawn 1 of their last 3 games.

Aston Villa managed to break the deadlock, despite being underdogs going into the game, with former Liverpool defender and Welsh international, Natasha Harding bagging the opener for the Villians.

However, Everton’s sustained pressure on the Villa backline did finally pay off, with striker, Agnes Beever-Jones, on loan from Chelsea, grabbing the equaliser for her side after rounding the keeper.

Despite Sorensen’s side’s efforts late on to grab a late goal to give them all 3 points in their 1st Conti Cup game this season, the visitor’s defence managed to hold firm, taking the game to penalties.

Both sides would score their first penalties before Ramsey superbly saved Pattin’s penalty to give Everton the lead.

Aurora Galli would miss Everton’s 4th penalty, giving the visitors a potential lifeline to get back into the game, but they could not grasp it. Ramsey would pull out another fantastic save to deny Blinkilde-Brown. Nathalie Bjorn would coolly slot away EFC’s 5th penalty, handing the blues a valuable bonus point in their hopes of qualifying from their group.
