Former Everton star Steven Pienaar has revelled in Ross Barkley’s FA Cup exploits with a three-word post celebrating the Chelsea man’s game-winning strike at home to Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Blues boss Frank Lampard had named Barkley in his opening plans against Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League title-elect side, for what was only our academy product’s 12th starting role of the season across all competitions.

Barkley had sat out almost half the top-flight season through injury earlier in the campaign, but has since featured in six of Chelsea’s last seven league games and in each of their FA Cup ties on route to booking a place in the Quarter-Finals.

The £24.3million-rated midfielder, who we sold to Chelsea for £15m in January 2018, returned Lampard’s faith with his side’s second goal of the night against Liverpool as the Stamford Bridge natives won 2-0, for what was Barkley’s third goal of the season in total.

Scoring against Liverpool ensured Barkley continued his streak of being involved in a goal in each of Chelsea’s FA Cup ties this term, and his strike against the Reds caught Pienaar’s attention.

Taking to Twitter, the 62-time South Africa international simply noted: “Get in Barkley.”

Pienaar played alongside Barkley throughout most of the England midfielder’s time at Goodison Park, with the South African plying his trade in Royal Blue between 2007 and 2011 following an initial loan move from Borussia Dortmund, before returning in 2012 after a less-than-stellar spell with Tottenham Hotspur.

Barkley broke out of our academy to make his senior debut under David Moyes in August 2011, and amassed 179 first-team appearances before joining Chelsea.
