‘Steve Walsh all over again’ – Many Everton supporters react to fan’s £114,982-a/w proposed target

Many Everton supporters have been reacting to one fan’s suggested transfer target, Bayern Munich legend Arjen Robben.

The iconic Dutch winger is set to become a free agent this summer once his £114,982-a-week contract in Bavaria expires on June 30, at which point the 35-year-old will be able to sign with any club of his choosing after ten years in the Bundesliga.

Robben has no aspirations of hanging up his boots anytime soon despite his release from the German giants, whom he won eight Bundesliga titles, one Champions League, four DFB-Pokals, and the 2010 Bundesliga Player of the Year award with.

Instead, it is said he would favour a move to the Major League Soccer over a chance to join Inter Milan, despite the San Siro outfit holding preliminary talks with the 5 ft 9 forward over a deal earlier in the year.

It would be a surprise if he were to move to China, either, as he told The Telegraph back in 2017: “A transfer to China would be something else entirely. That is basically acknowledging your career is over. I want to keep playing at the highest level as long as possible.

“It is all about a certain madness that is ongoing in China right now. They are offering some crazy figures. I also got some offers. The money on show is so crazy that you at least have to consider it.

“They are offering maybe four, five or six times the amounts you get at a big club. But money has never driven me. That is why I have had such a great career. It is about football for me.”

Fox Sports analyst Kenneth Perez, via Voetbal Primeur, meanwhile, has suggested the ‘logical option’ would be for Robben to re-join his former side PSV Eindhoven, where he spent two years before joining Chelsea.

Perez added: “If you read what he says: He does not want to stop, he does not want to go there or there, he does not want to play fifth or sixth place. Then it seems that he is going to PSV.”

Dutch outlet AD also feel Robben could link up with Mark van Bommel this summer after the PSV manager stated: “A player like Arjen is always welcome.”

This has not stopped one supporter from suggesting Director of Football Marcel Brands should try his best to tempt Robben to join the Toffees and go from Red and White to Royal Blue next season.

To which, here’s how some Everton supporters reacted…
