Many Everton supporters have been responding to a fellow Toffees fan on Reddit, after they shared that the Blues’ transfer activity in recent windows has seen the club target players from the elite sides in Europe rather than challenging for mid-table signings.
This summer alone has seen Director of Football Marcel Brands return to FC Barcelona to strike a permanent deal for Andre Gomes – following the successful purchases of Yerry Mina and the Blues’ 2018/19 Player of the Season Lucas Digne – as well as Manchester City’s Fabian Delph.
Reports in the media have also extensively linked the club with a potential raid on Juventus for their rising star of Italian football Moise Kean, and more recently his French teammate Blaise Matuidi and Croatian strike partner Mario Mandzukic.
There has even been speculation of another return to Catalunya looking to land long-time target Malcom, and moves to sign Danny Welbeck following his release from Arsenal and Atletico Madrid right-back Santiago Arias.
LOSC Lille’s Rafael Leao is another rising star to see his name connected with a transfer to Everton this summer, with the French media of the understanding Brands has offered €37.5million (£33.6m) for the Portuguese forward.
Brands has also held discussions with Chelsea over a permanent deal for Kurt Zouma, although the French defender has since decided to stay in South West London and fight for first-team football under Frank Lampard.
The fan who raised the point that Everton are targeting players at the elite sides of Europe conceded that the names connected with us are not regular starters at their clubs, but stated that our interest shows ambition that is emphasised by our ability to lure them to Merseyside.
