The summer transfer window is shut and it was a surprisingly uneventful day for Everton. Despite the Toffees having a number of out-of-favour players they wanted to ship out, no late business was conducted. Cuco Martina was one the players expected to leave this summer, but he’ll now remain at Goodison Park until January 2020. Some fans responded to the news on social media.

The 29-year-old has no future at Everton and can’t get into the side under Marco Silva, but he struggled for suitors throughout the summer and has been forced to stay on Merseyside as a result. Martina’s last competitive appearance for the Toffees came against Burnley on March 3, 2018. He finds himself behind Lucas Digne & Leighton Baines at left-back and Seamus Coleman & Djibril Sidibe at right-back.

Since joining Everton from Southampton in July 2017, the Curacao international has gone on to make 28 appearances in all competitions. Martina form was a major issue in his debut season, however, and it’s since left him on the periphery at Goodison.  The versatile defender hasn’t played for 18 months, but he’s stuck at Everton until he finds a new club.
