So many Everton fans destroy “complete disaster” who lost possession 18x in Merseyside Derby

|

So many Everton fans have been destroying Alex Iwobi for his performance against Liverpool, as we lost the Merseyside Derby 5-2 at Anfield.

Our £34million summer signing from Arsenal started the game on the right-hand side of the pitch, with Marco Silva persevering with the 5-4-1 shape favoured in the 2-1 defeat away to Leicester City at the weekend.

Like against the Foxes, Iwobi was unable to score or assist a goal from the right-flank at Liverpool, as the 40-cap Nigeria international stretched his goal drought to 11 league games, and is yet to register a top-flight assist since arriving at Goodison Park.

Iwobi did record two key passes at Anfield on Wednesday night, with one in the 25th and one in the 85th-minute, but saw neither result in a goal. The 23-year-old also took one shot, per WhoScored data, although he was unable to direct it on target and force Reds ‘keeper Adrian to make a save.

His sole completed dribble also came in the 24th-minute with an earlier attempt resulting in the ball being turned over, with Iwobi going on to lose possession a total of 18 times – only Lucas Digne (25) turned possession over on more occasions for the Blues.

Iwobi’s only successful tackle came on 10 minutes, too, while failing to record any interceptions or clearances as he played out only his fourth full 90 minutes in the Premier League since joining the club in August.
