It’s been revealed that as soon as Marco Silva arrived at the club he wanted to bring in a new left-back to challenge Leighton Baines for the position.

The Blues have been up and down this season, we should have got more points on the board than we actually have managed but, at the same time, last weekend we showed we have weaknesses.

One area that looks to have been improved, though, is down that left side with Lucas Digne coming in to offer real competition to the ageing Baines.

Indeed, he was one of the better players on the pitch on Sunday and his delivery from the left makes him a real asset.

Silva, too, has revealed that that was the first signing he wanted to make via the Echo:

HeĀ “straight away” gave a list of left-back targets to the club whilst also revealing:

“It was clear what our targets were and the position we needed to strengthen.”

He got a new left-back in eventually, then, and hopefully he’ll continue to identify players and manage to sign them in the future.
