As quoted by the Echo, Marco Silva has suggested that he is yet to decide who his number one left-back is at the club.

Leighton Baines is in the latter years of his career and when Lucas Digne turned up it seemed as though he might well take over.

However, Baines started the season in the side and only recently we have started to see more of Digne in the team.

Clearly, the pair are in a close fight for the position – which is good overall for the team – and Silva has said that there is a good chance either player will win the role.

He said:

“I think it’s normal.

“It is normal at a big club like us to have good players for all the positions.

“If you can have two it will be good for me, it will be good for the players as well.”

They are both good players and this is what we need if we are to improve.

Digne brings youth and energy whilst Baines has class and experience; whoever plays will need to be at the top of their game for sure and that is a good thing.
