Ronald Koeman has claimed Everton are ‘close’ to sealing a deal for Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Swansea’s Sigurdsson has topped Koeman’s shopping list for several week and finally the Iceland international is anticipated on Merseyside shortly, one of the three players the boss is targeting.

Koeman is looking for three more players, a left sided central defender who can also play at left back, along with a striker and a winger and Sigurdsson should soon cross one of these off the list.

He told Sky Sports: ‘Everybody knows we are looking for three more players – a left centre-back, a left full-back, a player who can play out of both positions, a winger and a striker and that’s the picture, what the best is for our team and we will see what we can do.’

Adding: ‘We are close [on Sigurdsson], we have to wait. But still, the deal is not done.’

Having already said Everton are ready for the season opener with Stoke, in fact the Premier League season ahead, with Koeman confident there’s enough time left in the transfer window to secure the players he’s looking for.

Meanwhile, regarding a potential exit, Koeman played down speculation linking Aaron Lennon with an exit.

Lennon, 30, has been back in contention to feature in the Everton squad this season but has been linked with Premier League rivals Watford? However, Koeman said he wasn’t aware of interest from the Hornets and his lack of involvement against Sevilla was due to fitness.

‘The reason that he wasn’t in the squad is that he was not fit to play today. I don’t know about any interest for Aaron, I don’t know,’ said Koeman.
