‘Shocking’, ‘Really poor’ – some fans criticise Everton midfielder after Tottenham draw

|

Everton drew 1-1 with Tottenham on Sunday and Alex Iwobi was one of many players called out by supporters for a poor performance. The 23-year-old started on the left-wing and was guilty of making an error that led to Spurs opening the scoring.

In the 63rd minute, Iwobi played a loose pass to Yerry Mina that Dele Alli pounced on. He ran at the Everton defence and fired a low effort into the back of the net. Iwobi didn’t cover himself in glory throughout Sunday’s encounter and was criticised on social media as a result.

Against Tottenham, the Nigerian international played for a full 90 minutes, made 46 touches, completed 79.3% of his 29 passes, created one chance, whipped in one cross, made five tackles, completed three successful dribbles, drew one foul and made one interception.

Since joining from Arsenal over the summer, Iwobi has made 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating three goals. The 23-year-old has operated on the left-wing and as a central attacking-midfielder, but he’s struggled for consistency.

Should Marco Silva drop Alex Iwobi for Everton's next game?

Yes

No

Whether Gylfi Sigurdsson could get the nod over Iwobi after Sunday’s showing remains to be seen, but the latter hasn’t done his chances of staying in the team any favours.
