Loads of Everton fans have been voicing their opposition on social media, after the Goodison Park outfit named Graeme Sharp as the club’s Players’ Life President.
Sharp will advise the Everton Board of Directors as part of his new role, which is the first of its kind at the club and comes as a reward for the 59-year-old’s exemplary service across four decades.
He is our leading post-war goalscorer having netted 160 times in 447 appearances, which only the great Dixie Dean can better throughout the club’s history, while Sharp also helped claim two League titles, an FA Cup and a European Cup Winners’ Cup between 1980 and 1991.
Sharp has held an ambassadorial role at Goodison Park since 2000, and will continue with those duties alongside his new position as the club’s Players’ Life President.
The Players’ Life President role will see Sharp act as a point of contact for the club’s captain, as well as the board, academy, executive leadership team and the first-team management staff.
Speaking of his appointment, Sharp told the club’s official website: “It is a huge honour for me to be asked by Everton to become the Club’s first Players’ Life President.
Do you support Sharp's appointment?
Yes
No
“Everton Football Club has been part of mine and my family’s life for so many years, and we have so many cherished memories from both my time as a player and in my role as an ambassador.
“It has been – and will continue to be – a privilege engaging with our passionate global fanbase.”
Not all of the Goodison Park faithful are as supportive of his appointment, however, as many have questioned his credentials and whether he will be anything more than a ‘yes man’ for Chairman Bill Kenwright.
Here are some of the messages shared…
Stinks of Kenwright this. What sort of appointment is this? He won’t say a bad word about the man and now he advises the board and is front and centre on the international stage when it comes to media stuff. Weird

A yes man who will protect Kenwright at all costs & peddle whatever agenda Bill wants….

Should’ve just stopped at ‘club ambassador’ lads, not too sure what credentials he’s got to be giving the board advice. A great player no doubt, but maybe give these type of jobs to people a bit more innovative and knowledgeable 🤷♂️

Pointless announcement if ever there was one, this is definitely a Bill Kenwright idea

I’m not quite sure I want him giving advise to the board and be our media facing guy.. Strange appointment for me but eh its one of them

Advise the board on what exactly? With what experience?
I can see the point in him being a club ambassador, but this?

In other Everton news, the club have turned down multiple offers for a £14m Toffees mainstay this month.
