“Send every first touch to Mars” – Many Everton fans rip into £18m-rated “Championship” man

|

Many Everton fans have been ripping into Dominic Calvert-Lewin for his performance against Liverpool on Wednesday night, as we lost the Merseyside Derby 5-2 at Anfield.

Marco Silva fielded Calvert-Lewin in his starting line-up for the tenth time this season in all competitions, with the Portuguese head coach preferring the former England U21 international as the spearhead of his line-up, while Richarlison and Alex Iwobi offered support from the wings.

Calvert-Lewin’s evening would only return two shots for the 22-year-old, though, with our number nine trying his luck in the 13th and 25th minutes, but without seeing either force Reds ‘keeper Adrian into a save.

As the game rolled on, Calvert-Lewin also never produced a key ball having amassed a total of 20 accurate passes from 28 attempts, while only winning two of his seven aerial duels – each successful battle recorded in the first-half, per WhoScored data.

Only Djibril Sidibe, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Xherdan Shaqiri won a lower percentage of their aerial duels than Calvert-Lewin at 29%, with the trio not winning a single aerial battle between them.

Calvert-Lewin also failed to register a single attempted tackle, and is now without a goal in his last five Premier League appearances.

The £18million-rated Sheffield-born striker lost possession six times at Anfield, as well, before he was replaced by Moise Kean in the 60th-minute.
