Ronaldo handed BAN after Everton incident

|

Former Manchester United striker, Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 2-game ban and a £50,000 fine after appearing to knock a phone out of the hand of an Everton fan after his side’s 1-0 loss at Goodison Park.

Everton recorded a much-needed victory over Manchester United at the end of last season, with Anthony Gordon scoring the only goal in the game to help his side to a massive 3 points which eventually led to Frank Lampard’s side maintaining their Premier League status for another season at least.

However, for Manchester United, this loss to one of the contenders for relegation was a massive step in the wrong direction in their hopes of making Champions League football, eventually ending the season in 6th position, qualifying for the Europa League after a poor second half of the season.

Ronaldo obviously shared the frustration felt by his team after the match and began his exit from the pitch hastily. He was obviously heckled by plenty of fans on his way out and out of pure frustration appeared to knock a phone out of the hands of an Everton fan. A rather unprofessional course of action for a player that is seen as a role model for billions around the world.

After over 7 months without punishment, the FA have finally been fined and handed a ban for his antics.

In an interview with the mirror recently, Sarah Kelly, the mother of the fan who had his phone broken by the Portugal international, spoke up about her and her son’s thoughts on the incident [via The Mirror]:

“I welcome the fact he has been fined. It’s been a long time coming. The FA rang me to tell me beforehand that he was getting the suspension and the fine.”

“It would be nice now if they gave the £50,000 to charity, maybe one for autistic children.”

“They should have taken action against Ronaldo a long time ago. This happened in April. I’ve been getting attacked online for dragging it on when it was everyone else taking their time.”

“I’ve had no apology whatsoever from Manchester United. They haven’t once reached out to me.”
