“I would take it as an insult” – Lots of Everton fans react as rumoured bid refuted
Lots of Everton fans have been reacting on social media, after The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland and the Daily Mail’s Dominic King refuted claims that FC Barcelona had bid for Richarlison.
Reports by Sky Sports on Wednesday evening claimed that the Brazil forward was a target for the Catalan giants as they chased offensive reinforcements, having lost Luis Suarez for the next four months following knee surgery.
Barca Sporting Director Eric Abidal was also said to have been a long-standing admirer of Richarlison’s skillset, and believes the 22-year-old would complement Suarez’s style of play at the Camp Nou under new boss Quique Setien.
Sky stated that Everton immediately rejected Barcelona’s advances as the board are unwilling to sell one of our prized assets, even though the La Liga heavyweights had offered €100million (£84.5m).
But Boyland and King have both refuted the suggestion that any bid was made, with the Daily Mail reporter stating that the club are ‘absolutely emphatic’ that Sky’s claims are ‘nonsense’.

Richarlison joined the club from Watford in 2018 for a potential club-record £50million, and has since made 65 appearances in Royal Blue whilst scoring 24 goals and creating six across all competitions.
He was our joint-leading goalscorer in the Premier League last term with 13 strikes to his name, and his early efforts at Goodison Park helped toward a senior Brazil debut against the United States on September 8, 2018.
The Nova Venecia-born forward has since made a further 18 international appearances, and signed a new, long-term contract on Merseyside in December which keeps Richarlison at the club until at least the summer of 2024.

In other Everton news, the club have made a late window approach to sign a sought after €20m midfielder after his proposed deal fell through.
