Report: Southampton may have to pay £20m and £1.2m wages to sign Everton man

|

According to Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Mail, Southampton are interested in Ademola Lookman. The 20-year-old has struggled for form and playing time at Goodison Park and may be offloaded for the right price this summer. Lookman is valued at £20m and earns £1.2m-a-year/£23k-per-week at Everton.

Whether Southampton would pay so much for an out-of-favour player remains to be seen, however. Lookman joined Everton from Charlton Athletic in January 2017 and has gone on to make 48 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating six goals.

The England u21 international made 24 appearances in 2018/19, racking up only 830 minutes of football. Lookman started only three games in the Premier League, two in the FA Cup and one the EFL Cup. He’s found himself on the periphery as a result of his poor form, so it’s hard to see Southampton signing him for £20m.

Everton had the chance to cash in on Lookman when RB Leipzig made a £22m bid in August 2018, but the Toffees may be lucky to receive half of that figure this summer. With Theo Walcott, Richarlison and Bernard for competition, Lookman stands little chance of being a regular at Everton.
