Report: Schalke interested in Everton defender, Toffees will accept loan deal

|

According to Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports, Schalke 04 are interested in Jonjoe Kenny and could battle Crystal Palace and Burnley for his signature. Kenny has struggled for playing time at Everton and will be granted a loan move away from Goodison Park this summer to get first-team football.

The 22-year-old rose through the youth ranks to the Everton first-team in 2017 and has gone on to make 39 appearances in all competitions, contributing three goals. Kenny was a familiar face during the 2017/18 campaign, featuring in half of Everton’s Premier League games, half of their Europa League outings, and all of their FA Cup & EFL Cup clashes.

He’s since fallen down the pecking order, however, amassing only 700 minutes of Premier League football in 2018/19. His last appearance in any competition came against Watford on February 9 and he only made the matchday squad in four of the 11 games that followed. Despite Seamus Coleman being the only other right-back in the first-team, opportunities have been few and far between for Kenny.

Schalke, Palace and Burnley are all looking to capitalise on the situation this summer, but it’s unknown which club Kenny will join. His temporary departure may force Everton to bring in a replacement too, with the Toffees being linked with Thomas Meunier of Paris Saint-Germain, Kieran Trippier of Tottenham and Andre Almeida of Benfica.
