Report: Marcel Brands ‘rejected loan bid’ from Galatasaray for Everton midfielder

|

According to Theo Squires of the Liverpool Echo, Galatasaray had a ‘loan bid rejected’ for Morgan Schneiderlin. Marcel Brands may have been instructed to turn down the approach as Schneiderlin still has a place in the first-team under Marco Silva or because a permanent deal would allow Everton to put the money towards a new signing.

The 29-year-old made only 16 appearances in all competitions last season and has stiff competition for a starting place. Fabian Delph has joined Idrissa Gueye, Tom Davies, James McCarthy and Andre Gomes in midfield, so Schneiderlin may find himself down the pecking order in 2019/20.

The French international has made 70 appearances in all competitions since joining Everton from Manchester United in 2017, scoring and creating two goals. Schneiderlin still has two years left on his deal, but he’s unlikely to be a regular next season which could see him consider a move away from Goodison Park.

Galatasaray failed in their loan bid for the midfielder, but they may have more success with an offer to sign him permanently. Schneiderlin made just eight Premier League appearances between mid-October and May last season so he’s clearly surplus to requirements.
