According to Pete O’Rourke of the Football Insider, Manchester City are ‘keeping close tabs’ on Mason Holgate and could battle Newcastle United, Bournemouth and Sheffield United for his signature.

The 23-year-old has been outstanding for Everton, going from an outcast on the periphery to one of the first names on the teamsheet. Holgate was an unused substitute and backup at right-back for the first few weeks of the campaign, but now he’s a first-choice centre-back under Carlo Ancelotti.

Holgate has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating four goals. As per WhoScored, he’s completed 83% of his 795 passes, won 36 aerial duels (54%), boasts an 80% dribble success rate, has blocked 22 shots/passes/crosses, made 66 clearances and averaged a tackle (32) or interception (23) every 28 minutes.

The £25k-per-week man racked up only 17 minutes of Premier League football up until mid-October but hasn’t missed a league game since. And with Holgate expected to extend his stay at Goodison Park past 2022, it’s unlikely Everton will be letting him go.

Football Insider say Man City are interested in the centre-back as they’ve been porous defensively this season, but they may be rebuffed in their efforts to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.
