Report: Inter hijack Everton deal, agent wants PL move, timing of transfer is important

|

According to Sport, Inter Milan are trying a last-minute bid to sign Andre Gomes. The Serie A club are trying to convince the midfielder to hold off signing for Everton until the season comes to a close. Inter need to guarantee Champions League football for 2019/20 before they can meet his asking price, but Everton are keen to finalise a deal as soon as possible.

The report states that Gomes’ agent is keen to push through with a move to Everton, but Inter are willing him to wait before making a decision. Marco Silva is keen to procure the 25-year-old’s signature and recently revealed that the club are in talks over turning his loan deal permanent. The midfielder appears keen to stay at Goodison Park past next summer too.

Gomes played for the likes of Dragon Force, FC Porto and Boavista before making a name for himself at Benfica. He made 41 appearances for the Portuguese outfit in three years before Valencia swooped for him. The midfielder made 78 appearances before joining Barcelona, but his career stalled at the Camp Nou.

His move to Everton has led to an upturn in form, however, so it makes sense to stay for at least another year to continue his development. Inter’s attempts are likely to fall short.
