Report: Huddersfield ‘interested in signing’ Everton midfielder ‘on loan’

|

According to Paul Joyce of The Times, Huddersfield Town are ‘interested in signing’ Kieran Dowell ‘on loan’. The 21-year-old has struggled for playing time at Everton and may have to leave Goodison Park on a temporary basis to get regular football next season.

Since rising through the youth ranks to the Everton first-team in 2017, Dowell has made only five appearances in all competitions. The England u21 international has been loaned out to Nottingham Forest (August 3, 2017 – May 31, 2018) and Sheffield United (January 2, 2019 – May 31, 2019) and doesn’t appear to have a chance under Marco Silva in 2019/20.

Let alone Dowell spending the last two years out on loan, the midfielder has Gylfi Sigurdsson for competition at Everton which further diminishes his chances of playing. The 21-year-old has two years remaining on his deal at Goodison Park and may not be in line to sign a contract extension at this rate.

After making 43 appearances on loan at Forest and 17 at Sheffield United, Dowell could be a regular at Huddersfield – it’s within everybody’s best interest. If the youngster could return to Everton off the back of a successful campaign at Huddersfield, he may resurrect his career at Goodison. Time will tell.
