Report: Everton ‘will move out’ two midfielders ‘from past regimes, Ancelotti ‘wants fresh legs’

According to The Sun, Everton ‘will move out’ two midfielders’ from past regimes’ because Carlo Ancelotti ‘wants fresh legs’ in the squad.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Gylfi Sigurdsson could be sold this summer as they’re surplus to requirements while being high-earners on £5.2m-a-year/£100k-a-week.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Schneiderlin has made 88 appearances in all competitions since joining Everton from Manchester United in January 2017, scoring one goal and making two assists.

When fit, the 30-year-old has been a regular under Marco Silva, Duncan Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti this season, making 18 appearances across the board, but his performances have left a lot to be desired.

Schneiderlin has been called out by supporters on social media for below-par showings and his injury woes have caused him to miss more than 10 games this season.

The French international might be a difficult player to offload, however, as his stock is low, he turns 31 in November and has lofty salary demands. Schneiderlin’s contract expires in 2021, so this summer may be Everton’s last chance to cash in.

The Merseysiders have a similar problem with Sigurdsson too. The 30-year-old has made 103 appearances in all competitions since joining for a club-record fee (£45m) from Swansea City in 2017, but his best days are behind him.

Sigurdsson is a regular in midfield, but he’s delivered a number of poor performances and contributed only three goals in 26 appearances this season. He’s on as much money as Schneiderlin, turns 31 in September and isn’t likely to fetch £20m given his poor goal output.

Sigurdsson’s deal runs until 2022, so Everton could be stuck with him for another two years.
