Everton will be made to pay for the club’s failed efforts to sign Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino in January, who Calciomercato claim ‘remains in the sights’ of the Toffees.

The Italian publication have offered an update on Vecino’s situation at the San Siro, where it is noted he continues to face an uncertain future under Antonio Conte as the Nerazzurri will look to clear out the deadwood this summer.

One of Vecino or teammate Roberto Gagliardini will be joining soon-to-bee free-agent Borja Valero in leaving the Serie A giants at the end of the campaign, and it just remains to be seen which of the pair will be the one to make way.

Inter have placed a €20million (£17.5m) valuation on Gagliardini in order to drum up interest in the 25-year-old, while Vecino will demand a sum of €25m (£21.9m) – more than double what Everton unsuccessfully offered in the winter.

Reports by Corriere dello Sport back at the end of March claimed the Blues had looked to finalise a deal for Vecino at €12m (£10.5m) plus bonuses after agreeing terms with the Uruguayan, but were unable to see the transfer across the line as Inter refused to drop their price tag.

They have since, it would seem, as Corrie dello Sport also suggested the Nerazzurri now wanted €35m (£30.6m) for Vecino, which Calciomercato differ from in their claims that Everton remain interested.

It is not to say that Ancelotti is or is not keen on poaching a midfielder from the Serie A yet, but €25m would appear a lot more appealing than €35m if Vecino is the one the boss covets the most.

Who assisted Richarlison equaliser vs Arsenal on February 23?

Vecino managed to earn starting roles in each of Inter’s four Serie A fixtures post the winter market closing, having returned to the side after two games frozen out entirely.

The 41-cap international has now accumulated 23 outings across all competitions this term, in which he has scored three goals and assisted one.

He has only created one big chance to score in the Serie A this term, too, while Sofa Score data shows he has recorded five successful dribbles (71%), 513 total passes (79% accurate), 15 key balls, 31 tackles, 47 ground duels won (47%), 18 aerial duels won (38%), committed 19 fouls and lost possession 147 times.

In other Everton news, Marcel Brands has landed a huge boost in the club’s plans to sign a €30m hitman after the 44-cap ace handed in a transfer request.
