Report: Everton watch 23-year-old in Sunday’s 2-1 win, bad news for Jordan Pickford

|

According to Fotospor, Everton are interested in Ugurcan Cakir and sent a scout over to watch him in Trabzonspor’s 2-1 win over Sivasspor (February 16). Jordan Pickford has an uncertain future at Goodison Park after struggling for form, so Cakir could be his eventual replacement if signed.

The 23-year-old joined Trabzonspor from Yamanspor in 2011 and rose through the youth ranks to the first-team in 2014. He’s gone on to make 62 appearances in all competitions, conceding 74 goals and keeping 13 clean sheets.

This season, Cakir has made 28 appearances, shipping 32 goals and shutting out four sides. He’s first-choice between the sticks under Hüseyin Çimşir but is expected to be sold when the campaign comes to a close. Club president Ahmet Agaoglu has reportedly received a £16.6m offer for the 23-year-old.

Tottenham and a Liga side are also monitoring Cakir’s development while Liverpool have been linked in the past too, so Everton might have stiff competition for his signature. It remains to be seen if the Toffees would part company with Pickford too.

The 25-year-old has conceded 43 goals in 31 games this season, so he’s not offering Everton a lot of protection and has been guilty of making errors. Time will tell of anything comes of their Cakir interest though.
