Report: Everton send scouts to watch 6’5” defensive tank in international match

Everton sent scouts to observe Sampdoria defender Julian Chabot in Germany U-21’s clash against Spain.

As reported by Tuttomercatoweb, the Toffees had a man on the ground in Cordova scouting the 21-year-old centre-back that has emerged into the Sampdoria first-team this season after joining from FC Groningen over the summer as reported by Football Italia.

Despite penning a four-year deal with the Genoese club after joining from the Netherlands, it seemingly appears that the 6’5” defender has already caught the eye of Everton in his first few weeks with Sampdoria, with numbers from Transfermarkt showing that Chabot has already played over 200 minutes of Serie A football.

And Everton’s scout would likely have been impressed with what he saw on Thursday night with from Chabot, as the towering centre-back was able to keep quiet a Spain side that overcame Germany in this summer’s U-21 EURO’s with La Roja claiming a 2-1 win in the final in Udine.

With the likes of Dani Olmo and Carles Perez to deal with on the pitch, Chabot assured himself well with damage limitation as the game ended 1-1, and in a season for Everton where Michael Keane and Yerry Mina are having a poor time at the back, some new blood could be needed for the Toffees.

Getting a deal done, though, could prove to be difficult for Everton with Chabot only just joining Sampdoria, meaning any transfer for the young German defender is likely to be an expensive one for the Merseyside club.

Yet January could see Everton make a move for Chabot with Football Insider reporting that the club have set aside £10m for defensive reinforcements in the winter transfer window, and the allure of playing in the Premier League could be a tempting one for the 21-year-old defender, who has proven to be successful signing for Sampdoria already.
