Report: Everton receive bid for midfielder

|

According to Sky Sports News, Everton have received an £8m bid from Crystal Palace for James McCarthy. The 28-year-old could be on his way out of Goodison Park this summer after struggling for fitness and playing time.

McCarthy has made 133 appearances in all competitions since joining the Toffees from Wigan Athletic in 2013, but he’s only racked up 832 minutes of Premier League football since May 2016.

The Republic of Ireland international has struggled with injuries in recent years which has led to him falling down the pecking order. He made six first-team appearances in 2017/18 and only one in 2018/19 due to a serious knee & hamstring injury.

McCarthy finds himself behind Idrissa Gueye, Andre Gomes, Tom Davies and Morgan Schneiderlin in the pecking order, and Fabian Delph’s arrival further diminishes his hopes of playing. With one year remaining on his deal, McCarthy no longer has a future at Everton and Palace are trying to capitalise on the situation.

The Eagles are making a move as they’re short of options in midfield. Roy Hodgson only has Luka Milivojevic, James McArthur and Cheikhou Kouyate to choose from, so he’s on the hunt for at least one addition to the engine room. A move should suit all parties.
