Report: Everton ‘on trail’ of 28 y/o, €10m-rated defender has the ‘attention of Carlo Ancelotti’

|

According to Calciomercato, Everton are interested in Gian Marco Ferrari and have been ‘on his trail’ this summer. The 28-year-old has a €10m asking price and the ‘attention of Carlo Ancelotti’, but Calciomercato say he’ll be a difficult player to sign as he’s a regular at Sassuolo.

Everton have the resources to bring Ferrari to Goodison Park, but the Toffees may have to compete with Napoli, AS Roma for his signature – Napoli are eyeing a potential replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly while Roma are on the hunt for a Chris Smalling replacement.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Everton have Yerry Mina, Lewis Gibson, Mason Holgate and Michael Keane at their disposal, but Gibson could be loaned out next season so there will be a void in defence. Matthew Pennington was loaned out last summer while Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka were released, so the Blues have been down to the bare bones at the back.

Jean-Clair Todibo, Gabriel Magalhaes, Marash Kumbulla and Kristoffer Ajer have been linked with a move to Everton, but Ferrari is the latest player on their shortlist. Under Marcel Brands, the Toffees have been targeting younger talent to replace ageing deadwood, but Ferreri would be a more experienced and cheaper option.

The 28-year-old has made 46 appearances in all competitions since joining Sassuolo from Crotone in 2016, scoring four goals. He’s beloved at the Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore, so Everton might have a tough task signing him.
