Report: Everton may have to pay £42m and £4.26m in wages to sign Juventus midfielder

|

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Carlo Ancelotti is keen to sign Emre Can to bolster Everton’s midfield. The 26-year-old could be made available for sale as he’s been out-of-favour under Maurizio Sarri, but he won’t come cheap – Can has a £42m release clause and earns £4.26m-a-year.

The German international has made just eight Serie A appearances this season, racking up less than 300 minutes of football in Italy. Sarri has preferred Aaron Ramsey, Rodrigo Bentancur, Miralem Pjanic, Adrien Rabiot, Blaise Matuidi and Sami Khedira before he picked up an injury.

With Can making only two league starts this season, he may be open to a move away. Juventus don’t need to budge on asking price, however, as the midfielder has two-and-a-half years remaining on his deal in Turin. They signed Can on a free transfer in 2018 and will make a substantial profit through his sale, but it’s still early days.

The Toffees are desperate for Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin to return from injury as Fabian Delph, Tom Davies and Morgan Schneiderlin have been inconsistent this season. Can would be a brilliant addition, but whether he regards Everton as a good career move remains to be seen.
