Report: Everton may have to pay £13.36m and £0.85m in wages to sign AS Roma man

According to Corriere Dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton are keen on Grégoire Defrel and could battle Watford for his signature this summer. The 27-year-old has spent the season on loan at Sampdoria and contributed 16 goals in 39 games in all competitions. His future is uncertain at parent club AS Roma, however.

Defrel earns £0.85m-a-year at the Stadio Olimpico and has an asking price of around £13.36m. He appears to be surplus to requirements at Roma after a disappointing debut season, meaning Everton could capitalise on the situation to bring the Martinique striker to Goodison Park.

The Toffees are in the market for a centre-forward to replace Cenk Tosun and compete with Dominic Calvert-Lewin next season, but whether Defrel is their No.1 target remains to be seen. Danny Welbeck has been linked with a move to Everton, as Marcel Brands wants a target man with mobility, but there’s been no movement on any potential signings.

Defrel joined Roma permanently from Sassuolo in 2018 and has gone on to make 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring just one goal. He’s greatly improved his form 12 months later and has growina lot of Premier League interest as a result.
