Report: Everton linked with £75k-per-week forward without a goal in three months

With only 23 goals from 20 games in the Premier League this season, Everton are expected to strengthen their attack in January. And with Carlo Ancelotti as manager, a number of his former players at Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Napoli could be on Everton’s radar.

According to Le10 Sport, the Blues are planning an ambitious approach to sign Lorenzo Insigne. The 28-year-old has has been at Napoli for nine years and made 57 appearances (18 goals, 12 assists) under Ancelotti between 2018 and 2019.

Insigne has contributed 10 goals in 19 appearances this season but hasn’t scored since September or made an assist since October. Regardless of his poor form, Napoli aren’t likely to sell their £75k-per-week club captain. The Italian international has three years remaining on his deal and is still on the first names on the teamsheet.

Everton need to bolster their frontline due to Richarlison (six goals, three assists) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (eight goals) contributing 74% of their league goals, so a player like Insigne would greatly improve the squad. It’s hard to see them landing his signature, however, so Ancelotti may be wasting his time.
