According to Pete O’Rourke of the Football Insider, Everton are in ‘advanced talks’ with Dominic Calvert-Lewin over a new deal that could see him earn £100k-per-week. The 22-year-old is being rewarded for his fine form this season, having scored and created 14 goals in 29 games across the board.
Calvert-Lewin got off to a slow start in 2019/20, scoring only three times in his first 13 Premier League appearances, but he’s since netted eight goals from the 11 games that followed. The striker has been tipped by Carlo Ancelotti to make the England squad, and Gareth Southgate is reportedly keeping tabs on his progress.
Calvert-Lewin’s form has coincided with Everton’s turnaround over the last three months. After their 5-2 defeat to Liverpool (December 4, 2019), Everton were sitting in the relegation zone (18th) with only 14 points from 15 games. They’ve gone on to pick up six wins and four draws from 11 and now find themselves seventh in the table.
Should player and club maintain such form for the rest of the campaign, Calvert-Lewin could make England’s squad for Euro 2020 while Everton could have Europa League football sealed for next season.
