Report: Everton ‘have been in touch’ with FC Porto forward

|

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola (h/t Sport Witness), Everton are interested in Yacine Brahimi and could battle West Ham United, Real Betis, Fenerbahce and Olympique Marseille for his signature this summer. The 29-year-old’s contract at FC Porto will expire in the coming weeks, but the winger doesn’t appear keen on joining a side like Everton.

After spending the last five years consistently chasing the Portuguese Primeira Liga title, Brahimi doesn’t want to play for a side who aren’t competitive and rich. Everton finished 8th in the Premier League last season and are some distance away from the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool. They could offer the wide-man a lucrative contract, however.

Brahimi was linked with a £26.5m move to West Ham in the past before the deal fell through. He’ll now be available on a free transfer as Porto failed to tie him down to a new contract. The Algerian international has made 215 appearances in all competitions for Porto, scoring and creating 97 goals. He’s won the Primeira Liga title (2017/18) & Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira (2019).

Whether Everton’s interest in Brahimi could mean Theo Walcott will be moved on this summer remains to be seen, but it’s intriguing that they’re being linked with the experienced winger given their newfound transfer policy for signing young talent.
