Report:  Everton dealt blow in pursuit of defender, AC Milan have ‘rough agreement’

|

With Everton conceding 30 goals in 23 Premier League games this season, in addition to having only three centre-backs in the first-team, signing another defender in January seems on the cards. The Toffees were showing interest in Barcelona’s Jean-Clair Todibo, but it appears AC Milan may have beaten them to his signature.

Where do we need to strengthen in January?

According to Antonio Vitiello of Milan News, the Rossoneri have a ‘rough agreement’ with Barcelona to sign the 20-year-old on loan with an option to buy. It’s a major blow for Everton and will force them to turn their attentions elsewhere. Carlo Ancelotti can’t survive the season with only Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate, especially if he wants to play three at the back.

Todibo has featured three times for Barcelona this season. As per Transfermarkt, he made a substitute appearance in Barca’s 2-0 win over Gefate (September 28), started in their 4-0 win over Sevilla (October 6) and started in their Champions League win over Inter Milan (December 10).

Whether Barca attach a buy-back clause to Todibo ahead of his potential move to Milan remains to be seen, however.
